The Port of Antwerp is aiming to further reduce CO2 emissions after signing a collaboration agreement as the first move towards the possible development of a Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) infrastructure.
Eight players in the port area – Air Liquide, BASF, Borealis, INEOS, ExxonMobil, Fluxys, Total and the port authority – are part of the consortium which will carry out a joint study into the economic and technical feasibility of such facilities.
If the project goes ahead, the port, which has the largest energy and chemicals cluster in Europe, would house ‘open access’ facilities available to the port’s entire industrial community.
