Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has received the first consignment of new advanced terminal equipment, including terminal trucks and trailers as it aims to accelerate port and quay operations at the northern part of Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP).
The terminal, owned by Saudi Industrial Services group SISCO, is embarking on an initial investment of SAR1bn (US$270m).
The new terminal trucks and trailers, the newest of their kind in Saudi Arabia, come equipped with the latest and most demanding safety features according to the operator.
In December 2019 a 30-year concession contract valued at SAR6.6bn (US$1.8bn) was signed by RSGT with the Saudi Port Authority (Mawani) to redevelop and modernise the northern part of JIP.
RSGT is the first container terminal in Saudi Arabia built by the private sector under a ‘build, operate, and transfer’ (BOT) agreement, and the only facility in Jeddah capable of handling ultra-large container ships (ULCS) of more than 20,000 teu in capacity.
