The Port of Rotterdam expects a 10-20% drop in throughput this year due to the widespread disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, with production processes and logistics chains affected.
In the container segment, capacity between Asia and Europe is being cut by approximately 25% in response to the reduction in demand for transport. This will also be clearly seen in the Port of Rotterdam in the coming quarter according to the port authority.
Container volumes only fell by 4.7% in teu in the first quarter of the year, as the impact of the coronavirus was limited until late March, as goods flows from China declined due to the lockdown there in February.
