Montecon has ordered two large electric rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes from Liebherr, the largest to have been built by the manufacturer.
The machines are also a first Liebherr RTGs to be delivered to Uruguay and are able to stack ten containers and a truck lane wide and 1-over-6 containers high.
Ray Cronin, Liebherr’s area sale manager for the Americas, said: “Montecon was impressed with the technological solution presented by Liebherr.
“The inherent value found in the Liebherr design including Liebherr’s eight-rope reeving, simultaneous drive motion and the stiff lightweight design provided an exceptional foundation on which to build these modern, safe and environment friendly machines.”
The electric RTGs have been designed in order to maximise space utilisation and will help Montecon to optimise its RTG operation, including reefer handling.
Some of the productivity and safety features included within the machines are BTG Autosteering, stack and gantry anti-collision and a truck anti-lift system.
An active front end and a CRD electric power supply helps to eliminate emissions and reduce fuel consumption and noise.
The cranes are scheduled for delivery at the Port of Montevideo in early 2021.
