CMA CGM launches range of value-added services to reduce environmental impact
CMA CGM aims to power 26 containerships using LNG by 2022

CMA CGM has launched ACT with CMA CGM+ which comprises of four services enabling its customers to analyse, reduce and offset the environmental footprint of goods’ transport.

Available through the group’s four subsidiaries, the four solutions include Cleaner Energy LNG, Cleaner Energy Biofuel and Eco Monitor and Positive Offset.

Cleaner Energy LNG allows customers to be able to transport their goods using liquefied natural gas (LNG), which helps to preserve air quality by eliminating almost all atmospheric pollutants.

CMA CGM aims to power 26 of its containerships using LNG by 2022 and seven of these are already in service.

The shipping line was also among the first to successfully use biofuel on its containerships, and through the Cleaner Energy Biofuel offering, its customers will also be able to opt for a transport solution for their goods using biofuel generated from used cooking oil.

These alternative fuel-based solutions can unlock reductions in greenhouse gas emissions of between 15% and 85% which gives CMA CGM’s customers a wide range of solutions to decarbonise their cargo.

Additionally, through Eco Monitor and Positive Offset, its customers will be able to analyse and offset their environmental footprints.

Eco Monitor, which will be rolled out in 2021, allows CMA CGM customers to keep track of their environmental footprint in real time and take action based off of this data.

Customers can offset emissions by contributing to Gold Standard carbon sequestration projects involving local communities through Positive Offset.

Through mixing and matching the various solutions available within CMA CGM’s ACT range, its customers can work toward carbon-neutrality while also helping to drive forward the energy transition in the shipping sector.

Marc Bourdon, senior vice president, commercial and agencies networks of the CMA CGM group, said: “The CMA CGM Group has always considered its business performance as intrinsically linked to its social and environmental performance.

“We have made ground-breaking decisions advancing the shift to cleaner energy and helping push the whole industry forward. Through ACT with CMA CGM+, we are sharing our energy transition solutions for shipping and providing our customers with effective solutions.”
