Egyptian authorities intend to enter into a long-term partnership with CMA CGM for the operation and management of the Port of Alexandria’s upcoming multi-purpose terminal, as the French company looks to strengthen its Mediterranean presence.
Operations will start next year at Pier 55, which will have an annual container handling capacity of 1.5m teu, facilitating the deployment of the shipping line’s larger vessels.
The terminal, which is seen as a strategic choice for the development of CMA CGM’s port operations in the Mediterranean, covers an area of 560,000 sq m and has quays of over 2 km in length.
