Port of Sines

Containerised cargo at the Port of Sines has grown 22.5% year-on-year for the first half of 2021, totalling 904,910 teu.

Overall cargo reached 24m tonnes in the same period, representing a year-on-year growth of almost 24% as Sines maintained the supply chains and continued to respond to market needs throughout the pandemic.

Liquid bulk, including crude, refined and natural gas, also grew in double digits by 29% and accumulated 12.6m tonnes handled, an increase of 2.8m tonnes.

Specifically there was an increase of 27% in oil imports and 16% in the handling of petroleum products compared to the pre-pandemic period in 2019, demonstrating the Port of Sines’ recovery from the restrictions.

General cargo, including containers, grew 21% to 11.2m in 2021, an increase of 2m tones, and in the first half of the year the Port of Sines registered a 1% increase in calls at 988 ships.

Thus the Port of Sines expects to see another positive year.
