For the first time this year a seismic isolation system has been installed on two quayside container cranes located in a major seismic zone in Asyaport, Turkey.
Provided by Casper, Phillips & Associates Inc. (CPA), the crane base anti-seismic isolation system (BASIS) is built on a nonlinear time history analysis (NLTHA) and can protect the crane main structure from damage even in contingency level earthquakes.
BASIS is installed the sill beam and main equaliser beam, about 13 ft (4 m) to 16 ft (5 m) from ground level depending on the crane’s size.
