There are worries that existing supply chain disruption could be set to worsen with one of the terminals at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, the world’s third busiest container port, having to shut down after a COVID-19 case was detected among the port operators.
Operations of container gate-in and gate-out at Ningbo Meishan Island International Container Terminal (MSICT) were suspended on August 11 until further notice, although the port’s other terminal operations are continuing as normal.
A statement from Hapag-Lloyd noted: “As Meishan Terminal calling vessels will be diverted to other terminals in Ningbo, we expect congestion and delays.”
