Despite a decrease in port calls, the effects of the shutdown of the Meishan terminal at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan are not nearly as significant as the Yantian closure in May, according to data from supply chain visibility platform project44.
On August 11, operations were halted at Ningbo Meidong Container Terminal, which handles around one quarter of the container cargo in the world’s third busiest container port, after a single case of COVID-19 was reported among the staff.
The average number of weekly port calls at Ningbo-Zhoushan dropped by 22% to 146 in the week following the closure of the Meishan container terminal on August 11.
