With disruptions to container shipping causing irregular calls from ocean-going vessels, the Port of Antwerp saw container traffic stay flat at 12m teu last year.
Average call sizes are increasing and there are a growing number of call size peaks, representing a major challenge for the entire logistics chain, the port authority noted.
The shortage of port labour, mainly due to COVID-19 and federal measures to combat the virus, compounded the problem, it added.
