The Getting to Zero Coalition has outlined policy measures that could close the competitiveness gap between fossil fuels and zero-emission alternatives in shipping, including a US$200 carbon price.
The report by the organisation, which is a partnership between the Global Maritime Forum, Friends of Ocean Action, and the World Economic Forum, highlights that policies will need to address the competitiveness gap if zero-emissions fuels are to become the dominant fuel source by the 2040s.
Christian M. Ingerslev, CEO of Maersk Tankers, said: “The cost of zero-emission fuels must be significantly reduced to close the competitiveness gap with fossil fuels. To bridge this gap, we need to realise the potential of public-private collaboration.
