Maersk and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have agreed on the development of a site where the Danish company will build a 23,000 sq m cross dock and a 35,000 sq m cold store to facilitate the transport of time-sensitive cargo.
The €50m (US$56m) development, which is scheduled for completion in 2023, will be situated on a 185,000 sq m site at the extreme southern tip of the Prinses Amaliahaven.
The cross-dock will be used for the short-term storage of fast-moving consumer goods while the cold store will be used for the transhipment of agri-food products, including frozen meat, fish, vegetables and fresh fruit.
