Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) is on track to dredge the port’s shipping channel to 47 ft as early as May 2022, aiming to help ease congestion in coordination with more than US$100m of berth enhancement investments.
The dredging project, one of Jaxport’s single biggest growth initiatives, includes the construction of a turning basin to allow larger ships to turn at Blount Island berths.
Jaxport CEO Eric Green said: “As the industry looks to combat everything from truck capacity issues to labour and equipment challenges, protecting the supply chain is global priority. That’s where Jacksonville’s modern deep water seaport comes in.”
