Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has continued with the electrification of the Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) with the arrival of more battery-powered automated guided vehicles (AGVs).
The transport of containers between container gantry cranes and the facility’s fully automated storage blocks is now almost completely carried out by AGVs, of which a good 80% are already powered by batteries.
A further eight battery-powered AGVs will join HHLA CTA’s fleet, the first of which arrived in March to replace their diesel-electric predecessors.
