DP World has resigned from the board of Solent Freeport, the site of a planned freeport which includes the Port of Southampton where the Dubai-based company runs the UK’s second busiest container terminal.
The resignation follows a national scandal arising from the sacking of 800 seafarers by P&O Ferries, which is owned by DP World.
Responding to questions in Parliament, Lord Greenhalgh, a minister at the department of housing, communities and local government, said: “On 28 March 2022 DP World resigned from the Solent Freeport Board and are no longer a partner in the Freeport consortium.
