Pacific International Lines (PIL) has begun a trial on the use of marine biofuel on its container vessel Kota Megah with an aim to test its feasibility and gather first-hand data on the potential carbon and other emissions.
Operating on the China Pakistan Service (PKS) route, the vessel received a blend of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) when it called at the Port of Singapore on April 10.
Lars Karstrup, co-president and executive director of PIL, said: “This marine biofuel trial is another important step for us in our journey towards reducing carbon emissions across our fleet.
