Overflowing container depots in the US and the pileup of empty containers will push container prices further downward in the mid-term, according to Container xChange analysis.
Container prices have declined in the US by as much as 30% in the past two months across the east and west coast and more than halved at some ports from 2021 prices.
A recent report by CNBC noted that bigger carriers have been sending empty containers back to Asia from the US to increase profitability and ensure the high-value cargo from Asia gets back to the US where the demand is.
