After being recently granted a 10-year extension to its concession, APM Terminals (APMT) Gijón is implementing several improvements, aiming to enhance its facilities’ operational, energy and safety capabilities.
The additions include a €2.5m (US$2.6m) post-Panamax crane, which will represent a clear improvement to the terminals current Panamax capacities and enable it to operate larger vessels.
The substantial modification of the concession approved by the port authority includes the progressive expansion of the area occupied by the terminal from 44,000 sq m in 2022 to 60,503 sq m, and the addition of a post-Panamax crane currently operating in Valencia.
