Container throughput rises slightly at Port of Hamburg

Container throughput at the Port of Hamburg rose slightly in the first quarter of 2022 despite an especially high peak load at container terminals.

The Port of Hamburg has seen a rapid downturn in container traffic with Russian ports, although the repercussions of the sanctions against Russia effective from March have not yet become apparent in most handling segments.

Axel Mattern, CEO of Hamburg marketing, said: “At 81%, the collapse in container traffic with Russian ports matched expectations.
