Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in the state of Gujarat in western India is set to develop a container terminal and a multipurpose cargo berth on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis under PPP mode at an estimated cost of R5893 crore (US$740m).
The projects feature a concession period of 30 years which can be renewed/extended for another 20 years. They offer flexibility to construct, handle more than the estimated capacity and provision for change of scope. The concessionaire can fix tariffs based on market conditions.
The container terminal will be able to handle mega vessels of up to 21,000 teu with a draught of 14 m to 18 m, offering an annual handling capacity of 2.1m teu. The estimated cost of the terminal is R4243 crore (US$530m).
