In the first nine months of 2022, Port of Antwerp-Bruges has experienced a 5% decline in container throughput due to the ongoing disruption of container logistics and the effects of the conflict in Ukraine.
Containers are still not rotating sufficiently due to congestion, the port noted, which has resulted in a decrease in throughput of full containers while empty container throughput rises.
Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Antwerp-Bruges, said: “The negative trend in the container segment, rectified by growth in the other segments, is likely to continue toward the end of the year.
