Dredging of the first segment (Segment 1A) of the Houston Ship Channel expansion project (Project 11), which extends from Bolivar Roads to Redfish, has been completed.
Segment 1A, which was completed on schedule and on budget, constitutes 11.5 miles in the Bay and is expected to help increase safety, reduce congestion, and improve vessel transit times by approximately an hour by reducing daylight restrictions.
Roger Guenther, executive director at Port Houston, said: “The completion of segment 1A is a great step forward to sustain the busiest waterway in the nation.
