APM Terminals (APMT) has identified switching its purchased electricity to renewable electricity from on-site or offsite sources as a near-term priority, as it attempts to bring down its scope two emissions on the pathway to net zero across all scopes by 2040.
The company’s decarbonisation strategy includes a switch to renewable electricity, direct electrification, battery electric mobile equipment, and moving from fossil to green fuels whenever possible.
Last year, the operator switched to full operations on renewable electricity for eight terminals in Europe and Port Elizabeth in the US, based on purchase or renewable electricity from local utilities.
