The Port of Valencia has begun testing the use of airships for the aerial surveillance of port applications such as pollution control, logistics operations, security and traffic registration.
Part of the Autonomous Stratospheric Platforms for Maritime Monitoring (PLEAMMAR) project developed by the start-up Smarthaps, an electrically powered airship with sensors flew over the Port of Sagunto to test the use of this technology.
