The Port of Rotterdam suffered a 12% drop in container throughput, handling 3.2m teu in the first quarter of the year as weakening demand for goods hit results.
Imports from Asia declined by 14% due to lower demand for physical goods due to accumulated stocks, while inflation also had an impact.
Despite the strong improvement in supply chain performance, no transhipment has been recovered yet in the first quarter. These volumes moved to smaller ports due to congestion during the pandemic.
