DP World has completed the expansion of its Centerm container terminal at the Port of Vancouver, Canada, on the year of the 100th anniversary of the port’s marine terminal operations.
The Centerm expansion project, completed by Centennial Expansion Partners (CXP) for a total investment of CA$350m (US$259m), included increasing the yearly throughput capacity by 60% from 900,000 teu to 1.5m teu, as well as raising by 15% the terminal’s overall footprint.
The project also helps the terminal reduce its environmental impact by adding capacity for containerships to connect to the electrical shore power, as well as by converting the facilities’ yard cranes from diesel to electric.
