APM Terminals (APMT) Bahrain, which operates Khalifa Bin Salman Port, has launched a solar power project worth BHD3.8m (US$10m), aiming to make the port energy self-sufficient by the end of 2023.
The terminal will reduce its carbon emissions by 65% while also securing a reliable and sustainable source of energy, effectively making the port the region’s first fully energy-sufficient seaport.
The project is part of APMT’s plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040.
