International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has broken ground on a new, eighth berth at its flagship Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) that will enable the facility to service vessels of up to 18,000 teu.
The new berth will create another 400 m of quay along with 12 ha of yard space to add an additional 200,000 teu annual capacity – which is beyond the contractual commitments to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) according to ICTSI.
ICTSI vice president Christian Gonzalez, who led the ground-breaking ceremony, said: “We are excited to announce the development of Berth 8, which enables us to be in the same league as the world’s top terminals.
