Signalling potential further disruption to cargo flows on the West Coast of North America, Canada’s International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has overwhelming voted in favour of a mandate to strike amidst ongoing contract negotiations.
The union noted that 99.24% of voters were in favour of supporting strike action against the member companies of the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) if necessary.
Labour action could affect operations at the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
