DP World is set to commence operations at Indonesia’s Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT) having finalised an agreement with the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) and state-owned Pelindo to manage the terminal and begin a major expansion that will more than double its capacity.
Currently BNCT has a capacity of 600,000 teu but DP World aims to increase that to 1.4m teu and to attract more direct calls, reducing North Sumatra’s reliance on regional hub ports to access regional and global markets.
DP World Group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: “We are proud to help Indonesia expand the BNCT and support its ambitions to develop the economy of Sumatra through infrastructure.
