Finnish candidate for International Maritime Organization (IMO) secretary-general Minna Kivimäki believes that her political experience at national and EU level can help her push the IMO into being more forward-thinking, while also prioritising the role of women in the maritime industry.
Kivimäki is one of the seven candidates aspiring to be the next IMO secretary-general, running against Moin Uddin Ahmed (Bangladesh), Zhang Xiajojie (China), Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry (Dominica), Nancy Karigithu (Kenya), Arsenio Dominguez (Panama) and Suat Hayri Aka (Türkiye).
The election will be held on July 18 and the winner will assume their position on January 1, 2024, commencing a four-year term.
