The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) council has elected current marine environment division director Panama’s Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco as its next secretary-general.
He will begin his four-year term on January 1, 2024, succeeding South Korea’s Kitack Lim in the role after his second term comes to an end.
Dominguez has been director of the marine environment division within the IMO since the beginning of 2022, having previously worked as director of the administrative division and chief of staff.
