The Port of Rotterdam recorded an 8% decline in container volumes to 6.7m in the first six months of 2023, as volumes to and from Russia were terminated due to the fallout from the Ukraine war, while imports from Asia fell.
In terms of tonnage, container handling dropped by 9% to 64.4m tonnes.
Despite the drop in throughput, the port has expanded its container capacity and increased its green transition efforts.
