MSC has joined SEA-LNG, an industry coalition to promote the use of LNG as a route to shipping’s decarbonisation, although the use of LNG as a green fuel is disputed by environmental groups.
In recent years, the Geneva-based company has invested in LNG-fuelled vessels, with its first five newbuilding dual-fuel LNG-capable container vessels entering operation last year.
The carrier hopes to maintain a modern fleet that will advance progress towards net zero decarbonisation by replacing conventional fuel vessels with dual-fuel capable vessels in the short term, including those fuelled by LNG.
