A south Louisiana parish is suing the Port of New Orleans (NOLA) in an attempt to prevent the port from building a US$1.8bn container facility over concerns the authority does not have the jurisdiction to operate in the area.
The St. Bernard Parish District Attorney’s Office filed the lawsuit this week in 34th Judicial District Court as residents claimed that the planned Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) would disrupt life and cause environmental damage.
District Attorney Perry Nicosia explained at a press conference that the lawsuit requested that an injunction be issued preventing Port NOLA from moving forward with the project.
