Container throughput at the Port of Hamburg dipped 12% to 3.8m teu in the first half of 2023, impacted by the tense economic situation in Europe and ongoing geopolitical factors.
On a tonnage basis, container volumes fell 11% during this period, as did general cargo throughput at 39.2m tonnes.
Axel Mattern, CEO of Port of Hamburg Marketing, said: “On a comparison with other North Sea ports in the North Range, it is absolutely clear that all players in this market are subject to the same tough prevailing circumstances.”
