Construction has begun on the new Rijeka Gateway container terminal, with an investment of €380m (US$410m) aiming to position Rijeka as a transport hub and creating 300 jobs.
Scheduled to begin operation in 2025, more than €200m (US$215m) will be invested in the terminal over the next two years for the first phase, with an additional €180m (US$195m) planned for the second phase within the next 10 years.
The terminal will be the first port on the Adriatic with remote-controlled, electric container cranes and will have a quay depth of 20 m.
