COSCO Shipping has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIG) to begin the construction of a green methanol industrial chain.
The project encompasses the production, transportation, refuelling and certification of green methanol for ships, representing a step forward in the Chinese maritime sector’s adoption of alternative fuels.
The adoption of green methanol is an important step for the industry to achieve environmental sustainability with COSCO Shipping recently ordering 12 methanol dual-fuel container ships, each with a capacity of 24,000 teu, making them the largest in the world.
