The Port of Liverpool will begin redundancy consultations with up to 125 staff in its container division, following declines in volumes with forecasts that “no meaningful improvement is expected in the near future”.
There has been an estimated 12% in container volumes in the UK in the first half of 2023, following a 7% decline last year.
The deterioration has been attributed to weaker consumer demand for manufactured goods due to inflation, recession concerns caused by high interest rates and wider geopolitical issues.
