Fall in empty containers leads to drop in volumes at Port Houston

Container throughput dropped by 20% to 307,000 teu in August at Port Houston, largely due to a sharp drop in empty containers.

Year-to-date empty container volume is down 17% due to a relatively balanced market of import and export demand.

Total 2023 container volumes have surpassed 2.5m teu through August, down 4% compared to last year.
