The first trial run of the maximum permitted draught on the Western Scheldt has been successfully carried out by the MSC Tessa at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges with a draught of 16 m.
It was the latest in a series of six trial runs where the draught was increased from 15.7 m to 16 m, which is needed for the port to continue receiving the largest container ships.
By increasing the authorized draught to 16 m, vessels calling the Port of Antwerp-Bruges will be able to significantly increase cargo capacity with the potential to yield +/- 1,000 teu.
