Unifeeder Group has signed a long-term time-charter agreement for two new methanol-powered container feeder vessels, with the option for two additional vessels, in its efforts to reduce the emissions of its European network.
German ship owning group Elbdeich Reederei will build and manage the 1,250 teu vessels which will be delivered in 2026.
Unifeeder and DP World, its parent company, are working with industry partners to find solutions to the challenge of renewable-methanol supply, which needs off-take commitments to build protection at the scale that the industry needs to replace conventional fossil fuels.
