The Port of Rotterdam has seen a 7% decline in throughput to 10.2m teu for the first nine months of 2023, attributed to the limited growth in the global economy and geopolitical tensions.
Global demand for freight is still lower than last year and has been further impacted by inflation and higher spending on services in favour of products.
In terms of tonnage, the container segment experienced an 8% drop in weight to 98.2m tonnes, while overall volumes across all segments fell by 6% to 329.9m tonnes
