Ghana’s president has officially launched the second phase of the Tema Port expansion, which includes the introduction of 15 gantry cranes at Meridian Port Services (MPS) container terminal and a significant civil works development.
The second phase of the port expansion project encompasses the paving of a 270,000 sq m area, expanding the terminal’s footprint from 100 ha to 127 ha, with the phased delivery of the first section comprising a 50,000 sq m area slated for July 2024 and the entire project anticipated for completion by September 2025.
According to Mohamed Samara, CEO of MPS, the second phase “promises to usher in a new era of enhanced capacity at Tema Port”.
