Santos Brasil, one of the largest terminal operators at the Port of Santos, has received two new quay cranes and eight electric rubber-tyred gantry (E-RTG) cranes, as it looks to decarbonise operations.
The company, which is targeting carbon neutrality by 2040, will invest R$2.6bn (US$500m) by 2031 in its terminal Tecon Santos to increase annual capacity from 2.4m teu at present to 3m teu.
The operator invested US$45m in the 10 cranes, with the total almost evenly split between the quay cranes and the E-RTGs. The equipment is expected to come into operation in the first quarter of 2024.
