APM Terminals (APMT) and DP World have formed the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA) at COP 28 with the aim of accelerating port decarbonisation by making battery-electric container handling equipment (BE-CHE) more accessible, affordable and attractive.
ZEPA, which is expected to start activities in early 2024, is an industry-wide coalition with membership open to all industry participants, including terminal operators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), port authorities and government entities.
The alliance has four key workstream objectives to overcome challenges in affordability and accessibility, such as encouraging scaled up production capacity of BE-CHE by manufacturers and reducing product costs.
