PSA Sines has received two super post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, in addition to the 10 existing super post-Panamax cranes on site, to help expand the capacity of the container terminal by 400,000 teu to 2.7m teu.
The order will enable PSA Sines to handle the largest container vessels deployed at the Iberian Peninsula as the operator aims to reinforce the facility as the preferred gateway hub in the region.
The new STS cranes left Shanghai in September and arrived on December 4 to undergo six weeks of testing before hopefully being commissioned for operations in February 2024.
