AP Moller-Maersk has announced it will deploy the first of its 18 large methanol-enabled vessels on order on February 9, 2024, with the 16,000 teu capacity ship entering service on the AE7 string that connects Asia and Europe.
The container vessel, which was built by South Korean manufacturer Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), is equipped with a dual-fuel engine, enabling operations on methanol as well as biodiesel and conventional bunker fuel.
Maersk has secured sufficient green methanol supply to cover the maiden voyage and is working further on 2024-25 sourcing solutions for its methanol-enabled fleet.
