The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) board has approved the development of the Blue Ridge Connector, a US$127m inland rail terminal in Gainesville that will link Northeast Georgia with the Port of Savannah’s 35 global container ship services.
The facility will open in 2026 and serve a region that is important in the production of heavy equipment, food and forest products.
The funding for the terminal is a combination of GPA internal capital and a grant from the Federal Maritime Administration (FMA) worth up to US$46.8m.
